‘filip tiene alas’ (2024), one of filip’s latest works, turns the artist’s body into the canvas or support for a wearable or wearable sculpture. Designed as a top, it holds a hyper-realistic doll representing the artist himself with cicada wings, evoking an aesthetic that is as doll-like as it is bionic.
In the piece, custic explores one of the key axes of his artistic practice, the reflection on contemporary identity. Understanding sculpture in conjunction with performance, filip pays homage to those artists who have used the street as a stage. In this case, the piece was presented during the opening week of the Venice Biennale (April 2024), where filip walked for hours through the streets of the city. For the artist, street performances invite the public to leave conventional spaces, leading to different and new reflections.
