Fango 1000: Game Jam & Discussion with dmstfctn

Onkaos invites the artist duo dmstfctn to present Fango 1000, an on-chain multiplayer text game where players compete for narrative control. The game takes place in the fictional medieval village of Fango, where a trove of a thousand chronicles has been discovered inside a monastery. Each chronicle describes how humans from another time trained a mysterious “machine intelligence” for an unknown purpose. Players join one of three factions with different worldviews and write their own versions of what the machine might be, what it was built for, and what it means for the future.

Fango 1000 expands on ideas from Large Lore Models: Speculative Tools for Decentralized Narrative-Building (dmstfctn, Eva Jäger, Alasdair Milne, 2023), in which they propose the LLoreM as a tool that facilitates collective and decentralized narrative-building explicitly linking data to the onchain record. In the game, players interpret traces of data to construct shared lore, testing how consensus and disagreement shape collective meaning.

After a short discussion on the production of collective lore in the age of generative AI, the event will continue with a game jam led by dmstfctn, where participants will play and experiment with the narrative mechanics of Fango 1000.
