‘Deemona’ at DongGang Photo Festival

Chino Moya’s Optimisation Nostalgia, from the Deemona series, is on display at the DongGang Photo Festival ’23 edition in Yengwol, South Korea, from 11 July to 28 September.

This year’s edition, ‘Assimilate them, Refine them, Slit them’, reflects on the notion of aesthetic objectification—the way in which human perception frames subjects through beauty, transforming landscapes, objects, and images into carriers of projected meaning. In this reframing, vision becomes both an act of possession and of rupture, exposing the distance between what we see and what we know. The festival calls upon artists to embrace this tension, to go beyond established discourse and approach the image as a site of continual re-invention, where singular gazes open up unexpected possibilities of sense and form.
