A new ‘critical eye’ on the art scene: A.I.C.C.A. performs at Espacio SOLO

The German artist Mario Klingemann has presented his latest work A.I.C.C.A. (Artificially Intelligent Critical Canine) in Madrid at Espacio SOLO, Colección SOLO museum.

A.I.C.C.A. is a robotic terrier that combines retro aesthetics with cutting-edge technology to explore the intersections of art, technology, and artificial intelligence through a live performance. Described by its creator as a “performative sculpture”, A.I.C.C.A is an automaton for the age of AI. This robotic dog is guest-list ready, open to attend art shows across the globe and provoke debate on criteria, criticism and the role of AI in art.

A.I.C.C.A. combines retro aesthetics with complex algorithms, ChatGPT and tongue-in-cheek humour to generate conversation. It reflects Mario Klingemann’s career-long fascination with the intersection of art and technology, but also marks a new step for the artist, who has incorporated robotics into his work for the first time. The result is a furry agent provocateur which invites debate around AI, the role of robots, or even what it means to have a critical eye.
